My Scrapbook Process: The Magic of Three

I feel like I'm finally getting back into the groove after a long holiday break. Today was cold and snowy, perfect to stay inside and scrap! To get myself motivated, I relied on one of the first design principles I ever learned: odd numbers make a composition more dynamic to the eye. I chose the number three and got to work!

My title, for instance: three words, three colors, three fonts, three different materials. I rocked that one, if I do say so myself.

Or this embellishment cluster: a sticker + a brad + wood veneer stars = three types of embellishments.

Collection Featured: Simple Stories Say Cheese
Here's the finished layout, including the three patterned papers I used for photo matting. There's a few more three's in the design. You didn't think I'd forget a visual triangle, did you? The process of how this layout came together has been recorded. It's about 14 minutes long and you can watch it right here or on my YouTube channel, whichever you prefer.

What about you? Is three a magic scrapping number in your world?

  1. Hi Sue. I'm still a novice so I don't really have a number idea with my scrapbooking but I do know in my life I prefer odd to even numbers. I do like to layer embellishments in the corners of the pictures that are on my layout. I also like to mat them on the diagonal. I'm still learning. Picking up tricks here and there and anxiously awaiting some new supplies. I'll come back later in the day to watch the video. Thanks for making one. Michelle t.

  2. I do a lot of threes, also. I also like the stitching and how your journaling is tilted for a bit of fun. Sounds like you are in for a few more cold days to scrap. Keep warm!

  13. I do use three clusters fairly often, and I like the idea of three different items in the cluster (will have to keep that in mind). Great layout.
