Inspired By...Scraplifting Myself

My assignment from Get It Scrapped!: Share 2 pages, one that you made without a sketch or template and one that you made as a lift of the first page.

When scraplifting myself, I like to find an older layout and create an updated version of the design for my new page. My first page from 2008 is looking a bit dated, but I still love the photos and the story about my husband's love of sweet corn. Isn't that what's important?

The new page reflects my current style. This is a quick and easy way to complete a layout, much like using a sketch. I don't try to re-invent the wheel. It's fine with me if the two pages look similar, although they usually don't!

How I Scrapped Then:
  • 4x6 photos, no matting
  • patterned paper: straight cuts, tearing
  • flat letter stickers
  • computer journaling
  • single embellishments
  • visual triangle

How I Scrap Now:
  • different photo sizes, usually matted on white card stock, pop dotting
  • patterned paper: border punches, inking edges, framing the page
  • Thickers, Silhouette cuts
  • typed journaling strips
  • multiple kinds of embellishments, layered
  • visual triangle

You can see what the rest of the team did with the assignment here. Have you ever scraplifted yourself?

  1. The then and now summary is really helpful. I like both layouts. Using more photos on the 2nd layout makes it look even more different from the first.

  2. Great pages! If a design works once, why not do it again?!

  3. I think they're both great...similar, but updated to reflect your current style. :)

  6. How fun to see the differences between then and now. You forgot to mention that one of the biggest changes in your evolution has been that you now use so much more color and pattern than before. It's not as prevalent on this page as many of your other more recent ones. I always look forward to seeing what you will whip up.

  7. Great lift of yourself! I like how you listed the changes in your style over the years. I've scraplifted myself a time or two, but after seeing yours I think it would be fun to pull out some older layouts & try it again.

  8. Great update! I love the first page too and don't think it's too dated. I have scrap lifted myself and like you, try to find an older design and update it. Your civil war photos are reminding me of my time in Nashville. Civil war relics and reenactments and museums were everywhere. :)

  12. Nice choices, Sue (and the new layout is lovely - great paper/colour choices). I often enjoy reflecting back on my style from then and now. I like how you've set them side-by-side (as it were) and listed out the style elements.

  13. I totally have some go to designs that I use when I just need to 'scrap it' and not worry about paper, embellishments or anything else. Sometimes I just want to get the page done and move on.

  14. I love your grid of photos and your scattered stars on the latest page! I have taken bits of inspiration from previous pages, but I don't know if I've ever scraplifted a whole page of my own.

    We love sweetcorn too! x

  15. This is a great idea. I'll have too look at some of my earlier layouts and see if I can do the challenge. Your page is great. Perfect lift.
