This Month In My Scrap Room: January 2013

Welcome to a new series: This Month in My Scraproom! The idea is to show the behind-the-scenes projects that are part and parcel of keeping an organized space. Or something close to it. There will be photos and descriptions of work that does not directly result in a finished scrapbook layout, but hopefully contributes to a process that helps me keep scrapping in an efficient manner.

For January, I have four projects to show you. Here we go!
Project #1 - Layouts That Need a Home
I file my layouts quarterly, so here is the latest batch of pages that need to go into albums. I chip away at this all month. Stacy Julian's Library of Memories system and Shimelle's Cover to Cover class form the basis for my album organization.

Project #2 - Organizing My Mist Colors So I Will Use Them More Often
After coming across this post, I knew I needed to tackle a similar project. So I went to my mist collection...
...sprayed smooth white cardstock with each color, let them dry...
...and assembled this little tag sampler, which I keep...
...in a small basket on my scrap table with my mistables and masks. I have used this system on a layout recently, and it is so much easier to hold the tags up to a project to see what color works best without having to do a bunch of test sprays.

Project #3 - Shopping, Shopping, Shopping!
I received this order from Two Peas for:
  • the latest collection from Crate Paper: Fourteen
  • cards and chipboard shapes from Pebbles Family Ties collection to go with papers already in my stash
  • enamel dots and brads from My Mind's Eye Lost and Found 3. I wasn't crazy about the MME paper, so I plan to use these embellishments for the basis of a kit I'll assemble from my stash

Project #4 Donations
One bag of patterned papers, one bag of miscellaneous scrap supplies and one bag of yarn, ready to be donated to our local PTO thrift shop.

The cat is not for donation.

There you have it! I hope you enjoyed this behind-the-scenes peek. What's been going on in your scrap room this month?

  3. Great new feature, Sue. I like seeing the way you approach all the things that go into creating and maintaining your pages and your stash. Thank you for sharing the wonderful idea on keeping track of mist colors. I'm using mine more and more. Definitely need to do these samples.

  5. Great idea for a series! Love reading your blog. January is when I do my re-organizing in the scraproom. This year I am moving my themed papers out of 12x12 drawers into cropper hoppers and my alpha stickers into deeper drawers. My hope is to gain a few more drawers to better sort my embellishments. That drawer of stickers and diecuts will not close right now! Would love to make the mister tags too.

  6. My scrap room is my dining room. Had to clean it out for Christmas and I'm slowly bringing things back...though I can't remember where I put some things! I think I need to make a mist tag set too, I've managed to collect quite a few colors but really haven't used them much.

  7. I need to do all of that and more!
Love your mistables storage and that you keep the tags in there :)
I do actually try to put my layouts away after I post or blog about them.
Ever since I had a water mishap with a stack that were ruined :(
But right now I think I do have a small pile that need my attention!

  8. I'll take a cat donation!! haha

I am jealous of your enamel dots and brads. I need to restock both, but I'm trying to wait awhile. I might not make it, though!

  9. Great idea!

I'm considering doing something like that. Although I usually have it in my mind which spray I'm going to use and then just commit. Even if it's not what I expected, I will just run with it and adapt.

    1. Yes, I enjoyed it very much and refer to it often when I'm organizing layouts in my albums. I believe the link I gave is for an instant download of the entire class, so you can have all the materials at once!

  16. I love the mist tag-sampler, great idea! And your 'cat not for donation' comment made me chuckle! I've sorted out a few bits from my craft room to sell, the donation pile is next. I filed away some layouts too, but it just reminded me I need to buy more albums! x
