My Scrapbook Process: Current Favorite Techniques

This layout documents our minor kitchen remodel last year. We kept the cupboards, but Phil stripped outdated border paper and re-painted the entire kitchen. The new floor, countertops, sink and back splash were hired out. I chose two photos showing the biggest difference between before and after.  Echo Park's This and That Charming collection helped pull the page together.

This patterned paper reminded me of receipts, so I layered pieces behind the photos. I thought this fit the theme of the page nicely without being over the top about it. I'm enjoying the freedom of playing with bits and pieces of paper. I see what I can come up with and then add the photos on top.

These do-it-yourself embellishments create a visual triangle. I'm still all about the visual triangle and have to tell myself it's okay if I occasionally make a page without one. Lately I'm buying fewer embellishments and investing in punches and die cuts so I can create my own custom touches.

Adding border strips and a bit of sewing is a new favorite technique of mine. I seem to be using it all the time these days. I really like the finishing touch it adds.

And that's how I put this page together. Do you have any go-to techniques or new design elements you are loving these days? Do tell!

(p.s. my next kitchen project is new appliances, so if you could leave a comment about how we need to replace that white stove, I'll be sure and share those with Phil!)

  1. I'm doing stamping and banners or bunting lately. I would do more stitching if I had a craft room and could leave my machine out.
It's very subtle change in the kitchen and a white cooker may have been OK with white worktops, but not with the new cream. Tell hubby his work is wasted until you get that new cooker!

  2. Love the use of ledger style paper as embellishment. Really supports the theme. That is my go-to. My embellishments have to tie into the subject of the page. When we did a kitchen remodel, I got a new stove and I love the smooth cooktop (so easy to clean) and the convection oven. (Next time, I would go back to GE and stay away from Jenn-Air though - the oven doesn't keep a consistent temp. I would also look at those two oven stoves with the small oven on the top.)

  3. Fabulous page to document the remodel. Love that you cut apart that paper into individual elements. That looks very cool. And...gasp...I did a page the other day without embellishments creating a visual triangle and I survived. Wasn't sure I would, but I can tell you, it is possible. :)

  4. Love the look of those receipts on this page. And, I think all new black appliances is what you need, I have those in my kitchen. Now who you choose to tell, and their reaction thereto, is out of my control. ;-)

  13. The kitchen countertops is most likely essentially the most critical level with the location at your residence. This is when an individual cook your own foods as well as useful for generating friends.
