Inspired By...

Scraplifting. You see a layout and want to incorporate all or part of it on your next page. No problem. You then want to use your page for a design team call or submit it for magazine publication and claim it as completely your own original work. That's a problem. Practical Scrappers is teaming up with Link with Love and Liz Qualman to promote giving credit where credit is due. Here is my example.

I used my February Studio Calico kit for this layout. The design was inspired by Sarahak and the circle embellishments were inspired by cleosmum.

We all have scrapbook layout ideas filed away in our brains, things we've seen dozens of times, or techniques we've used enough to say they are part of our style. That's all fair game. But if I pull up a bookmark or have a print out of someone else's layout on my desk while I'm creating, even if my finished page looks very different, then I'm going to tell you and provide a link if there is one. Fair enough?

The Link with Love Blog Hop begins at Practical Scrappers on Friday, March 2nd and runs through noon EST on Sunday. Many of the designers are providing prizes at their stops and Practical Scrappers is providing a prize for one person who becomes a follower at each stop. Happy weekend surfing!

  1. Absolutely! As a trained librarian I have an interest in intellectual copyright and the rest and I am passionate about giving credit where it is due. A good post!

  2. I really like the clean crisp look of this - I pinned it - so I can remember who to give credit when I scraplift it (wink!).

  3. I think that is very fair. Your layout looks so much different to me. I love the tone on tone background with the circles. Great idea!

  5. What a gorgeous layout Sue. In the past I would copy/save a layout I loved, but I didn't save who the original creator was. That's frustrating because now I have no idea where it came from. Your layout really does look totally different from either layout, but it's great to recognize others creative ideas. Great post.

  7. This sounds great...the original artist put all those design skills in and i feel should be acknowledge. I have a card on my blog this week (I made three similar ones) and I referred to the lady and her blog to acknowledge her inspiration.
I will follow this blog hop on the 2nd.
Thanks for bringing to our attention Sue.
