It's the Little Things Challenge

Five layouts in one post! Is that legal? I challenged myself to do a series of pages using the Fancy Pants collection It's the Little Things. I went this route because:
1) I bought almost the entire line at Scrappy Chic and then got another huge stash of it from my monthly kit club.
2) While I love the line, it is very unique and distinctive, and was not mixing and matching well with other paper lines in my stash.
3) Starting with a kit and then finding photos that would go well with the style and theme of the kit is not my usual process and starting point.
These hummingbird close-ups fit the bird/nature/outdoor theme of the line. The muted tones of the paper help the photos stand out.
My color choices were influenced by the colors in the photos and the fun, busy time we were having. And yes, I totally ignored the blue sweater I was wearing. How dare I dress in such a non-coordinating fashion!
The black and white photo presented the perfect opportunity to play with color and pattern. Sorry for the mediocre cropping, but I didn't want to lose the black border.
One precious photo from way back, lots of inking, and a blocked design make this layout my favorite of the bunch. I also liked the challenge of typing in that journaling balloon.
This is my scraplift of Karen Grunberg and her love of long titles. I'm learning to love them, too. I sanded the banner to tone it down a bit.

After the initial work on each layout, I laid them aside for a few days, then went back and added some finishing touches. Simple things, really, like hand stitching, buttons and brads. It really helps me to re-visit a page with a fresh eye to determine if it is really finished or needs a little something more. How about you - do you prefer to finish layouts in one sitting, or allow time to elapse before you call it good?

  3. It takes me ages to finish a layout, so certainly not in one sitting lol. But wow these layouts are gorgeous. I must admit I love these papers too, so not surprised you got the full set.

  5. If it isn't legal, it certainly should be :)

I walk away from every layout I do about half a dozen times over two or three days. If I stick it all down at once I never like it!

  6. Love that you tackled your stash so efficiently! Great layouts all around, and I love that they are all unique, even though you used the same line.

I'm usually a one-sitting scrapper, though I like to leave finished layouts where I can see them for a bit -- sometimes I'll go back and add a bit here or there...or not!

  8. Wow, you've been busy. I like all these - you mixed things up really well. I usually finish most layouts in one sitting - if I'm not pleased with it, I let it sit overnight. And then I either like it better the next than I did when I finished or I tweak it. I'm not a perfectionist, at all!

  9. Oh my, what awesome layouts! I love the last one for it's nostalgia...it's true you better not blink because they do grow up so quickly...my kids are now 30, 29 and 28!! Where did the time go?

  11. OMG! You have been super busy! Love all of these layouts! It is amazing that you can get such different looks from the same papers! I am a 2 session (or more) scrapper. Otherwise I usually think that there is just something missing, LOL! Glad that I am not the only one! -Amanda

  12. Wonderful layouts. Yes, I believe it is illegal to post that many in one post. It makes the rest of us look bad. LOL

  15. I think the "what a pair" is my favorite, too, however they all turned out great. What a fun exercise to work with one line for several layouts in a row.

I usually complete a layout in one sitting and don't go back to add things later. Once I'm done, I'm done!

  18. Great job! I love that line but I agree its had to mix it up. I usually start a layout and come back to it if I don't have time to finish but I would rather get it done in one sitting!

  21. Awesome layouts! Such a good idea to use the paper up all at once. I can see what you mean - the colors are unusual so it would be harder to get them to mix with other lines. I love the long title page. I am starting to think more about long titles too - Karen makes them look so cool. :)

  22. Oh boy! You have been very productive Sue! And these are awesome! :)

I work on multiple layouts at once...while waiting for one to dry, I'll work on another...I do add a few buttons or so before I photograph them...:)
